73. Mike Nock Electric Band at the Basement, 1/10/87

The band plays what is presented here as a single set, though at 1.75 hours it was probably two and I can’t tell where the break occurred. On this occasion we know that the Wizards of Oz played the opening set, as that recording is part of this collection. As is often the case, the balance takes a short time to settle and there is also a short patch of mis-tracking in the first tune. This tape was an early transfer to disc and as I no longer have the original tape, I can’t to go back to it and work out whether the mis-tracking occurred during recording (unrepairable) or playback (possibly repairable). There is a rather high level of what sounds to be an inattentive yet appreciative audience, which may have more to do with the level of room mic in the mix, but at least you get plenty of the club’s atmosphere.
