I set up my mixer on a table in the bar area and at the end of a set, would cover it with a table cloth and go off to get a drink. The technical delay alluded to at the start of the 2nd set was caused by someone in the audience mistaking my covered mixer for a table in the dim lighting and using it to rest their glass of wine, which promptly tipped over spilling its contents into the mixer. Loud crackles through the PA alerted me to the problem, after which the mixer (modular in construction, luckily) was dismantled, the affected modules rushed upstairs and washed in the kitchen then dried, and the console reassembled so the show could continue. I learnt my lesson…and thereafter draped my table cloth over a large plastic garbage bag wrapped around the mixer.
